Year 9 Student's Design Becomes New Best Food Forward Resource

A talented Year 9 student from one of our local Derbyshire partner schools has seen her design transformed from a classroom concept into a professionally produced educational resource.

Earlier this year, Best Food Forward invited secondary school students to take part in a design challenge to create an environmentally friendly storage box for the Best Food Forward Food Cards. Students were asked to consider practical classroom use, durability, sustainability and visual appeal while developing their designs.

Among the submissions received, Lillie's design stood out for its creativity, functionality and strong visual identity. Following the judging process, her design was selected to become the basis for the new Best Food Forward Food Card box.

Working alongside local printers at Linney Print, Mansfield, the concept was developed into a finished product that remains true to Lillie's original vision while meeting the technical requirements of large-scale production.

To celebrate her achievement, Lauren Rathbone, Director of Social Impact at The School of Artisan Food, visited Lillie's end-of-year-assembly to present Lillie with an award and a completed set of the Food Cards featuring the final box design.

Lauren Rathbone said:

"This activity perfectly demonstrates what can happen when young people are given meaningful opportunities to apply their creativity to real-world challenges. Lillie's design was thoughtful, practical and visually engaging, and we're delighted to see it become part of a resource that will be used to support food education in schools and communities. It has been wonderful to share this journey with her and celebrate her achievement."

The new box will be used to store and protect the Best Food Forward Food Cards, which help young people develop their understanding of food, nutrition and the wider food system.
