SECONDARY SCHOOL FOOD EDUCATION

SUPPORTING PUPILS TO MAKE HEALTHY AND ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY CHOICES ABOUT FOOD

Pupils cooking food in a cookery class

Best Food Forward looks at the whole food system: what we eat, why we eat it, different cultural eating practices, the enjoyment of food, how it can affect our health and the impact it has on the environment.

It is designed to ensure that students know where food comes from and how it is grown, produced and prepared. Working with teachers, kitchen staff and students, it also educates about the part played by the food system in the human and physical world, including climate change. The School of Artisan Food aims to help and support schools as they enrich their whole food culture.

WHY TAKE PART?

Best Food Forward goes beyond school's statutory obligations to support their student's wellbeing. Not only is the programme aligned to meet the RSE and Health statutory guidance, but it also interlinks with other subjects, including DT, Science, Mathematics, Geography, and Religious Education.

We believe in a whole-school approach to food. As well as supporting academically, the programme supports future career insights, wellbeing, and valuable life skills
that children need to learn to be the best version of themselves.
