Yesterday, students in Years 9 and 10 at Shirebrook Academy were delivered an engaging assembly led by Lianna, our Food Education Specialist, exploring the huge range of careers that exist across the whole food system.
The session, designed to open young people’s eyes to the many pathways available to them, took students far beyond the familiar roles of chef or farmer. Using interactive activities and real‑world examples, Lianna guided them through opportunities in areas such as:
Food science, safety and quality
Nutrition, health and food education
Culinary and hospitality careers
Media, marketing and creative food roles
Sustainability, research and food policy
Primary production, harvesting and supply chain operations
Students explored how every part of the food system is interconnected, and how their own skills, whether creative, practical, analytical, or people‑focused, could fit into this diverse and exciting sector.
This assembly builds on Best Food Forward’s commitment to improving food education across the region, empowering students to make informed decisions about their futures and understand the impact food careers have on communities, health, and the environment.
Coming Soon for Our School Partners
We’re delighted to share that this assembly will soon be available to all Best Food Forward legacy schools as well as our current partner schools. It will help teachers extend the conversation in the classroom and link future learning to Gatsby benchmarks and wider curriculum goals.
This is another exciting step in our mission to ensure every young person has access to high‑quality, meaningful food education and can see themselves as a future changemaker in the food system.
If your school would like early access or wishes to book a live session, please get in touch with the Best Food Forward team.
BFF Team.
