On Tuesday, we had the pleasure of facilitating an engaging and informative session with around 250 enthusiastic secondary school students in Derbyshire. Organised to support Quarrydale Academy during their Healthy Eating Week, the event aimed to inspire and educate Year Seven students (aged 11 to 12 years old) on the crucial connection between food and well-being.
The session covered a variety of important topics, including hydration, mindful eating, sensory exploration of new foods, enhancing the nutritional quality of snacks, portion control, and quick and easy nutritious snack ideas. The activities were structured into 10-minute slots, with students rotating around six tables to learn how to support their health and well-being through food and fluid choices.

Student Engagement
The sessions were supported by members of the Best Food Forward team, including student dietitians on placement with us from Sheffield Hallam University, with additional contributions from the school's teaching staff. The Year Sevens engaged incredibly well with the short and interactive activities. They brought forward interesting topics for discussion and were particularly intrigued by the visual aids.
Impact and Feedback
The main messages conveyed to the students emphasised the importance of making informed dietary choices to support their overall health and well-being. Feedback from both students and staff was overwhelmingly positive. The interactive nature of the session allowed students to have a positive and memorable experience with food.
Sessions like these are vital as they give students the knowledge and tools to make healthier choices, fostering a positive relationship with food. We look forward to organising more events like this in the future to continue supporting our partnered schools' health and well-being.
